The project will take place in January 2012, where a group of volunteers will travel to Kenya, stay for one month (times can be flexible) to commence the development of a permanent home for the children of Familia Moja in the village of Mang'u.
Familiar Moja currently is the home to 31 children, 4 permanent caretakers and any number of volunteers that help us out individually. Currently we are renting a home that takes up a portion of our monthly budget, our aim is to build our own home and use those funds to make Familia Moja a self-sustainable home.
In June 2010, we purchased 1.25acres of land walking distance from where we are currently based. We hope to be able to farm this land, and make it a permanent home for our children at Familia Moja. Our dream for Familia Moja is to care for orphans and vulnerable children, as well as alleviate poverty within its community.
For our group volunteer project, we are looking for committed volunteers who are passionate about helping children living in poverty. If you think that you can help our grassroots community-focussed organisation achieve its goal, than please consider joining our project.
As a volunteer you'll be living in rural Africa, within a different lifestyle and culture. Each day you'll be helping to care for the children as well as help build the home. It will be hot and sweaty work, but also the chance to be part of our organisation, have lots of fun, make friends, and have an experience you will never forget!
We hope volunteers will enjoy their time, and gain a holistic experience such that the volunteers will stay involved with Familia Moja long after they return home from Kenya.
To become a volunteer for the project you will need to:
- Raise a minimum of AUD$2,500 to donate towards the project, 100% of which is spent on the costs of building the home.
- Purchase their flights, visas, travel insurance and any vaccinations required
- Pay AUD$200 for food and accommodation whilst volunteering on the project
We will provide fundraising support (information, photos, fundraising ideas etc) to help you gather the required funds.
If you are interested please email Jess White at familiamoja@gmail.com providing some brief information about yourself and why you would like to be part of this project.
