Volunteer Story - Emma James

I was very privileged to spend two weeks volunteering at Familia Moja this summer.  My only regret was that I couldn’t stay longer.  Despite my short stay I was still welcomed with open arms by everyone who instantly made me feel part of the family.   All of the children presented as happy, well balanced, energetic and fun to be around.  I will never be able to forget their huge infectious smiles and enthusiasm for life.

As it was still term time, the majority of the children were at school in the day.  I would therefore spend my days helping the hard working staff with everyday jobs such as cleaning, washing and cooking, and evenings with the children.  As I left, I felt mixture of sadness for leaving the new friends I had made (both adults and children) as well as happiness, to have had such a great experience and the opportunity to make amazing memories that will stay with me forever.
