FAMILIA MOJA CHILDREN'S CENTRE, KENYA
CELEBRATES 3 YEAR ANNIVERSARY
THIS WEEK marks the three-year anniversary of FAMILIA MOJA CHILDREN'S CENTRE, a Kenyan children's centre dedicated to improving the lives of not just its orphans but the community as a whole.
In the last three years the centre has achieved a great deal and has grown into an admirable centre of community benefit.
FMCC started its life providing a home for 12 children. To date the centre now houses 31 children, providing them with a stable environment, emotional support, a good education and a healthy diet.
In 2009 FMCC received official certification as a children's centre from the Kenyan government's MINISTRY OF GENDER, CHILDREN AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT, a difficult feat that most other Kenyan children's centres have not achieved.
FMCC management has worked hard to create a stable team of staff to care for the children. The staff have developed into a close-knit, well-trained team, dedicated to the centre who provide the children with a rounded and healthy level of support.
Over the last three years FMCC has built a strong relationship with the local government primary school. Through funding, support and interaction, the children of FMCC and the local community are receiving a better level of education than ever and their results continue to improve.
FMCC recently purchased land where it will build a permanent home for the children. With the help of Kenya's Imperial Bank the drilling of a bore hole on the land will commence in 2011. The centre will also harvest fruit and vegetables and create income-generating projects. FMCC is on the road to becoming self-funded and sustainable and will soon have the opportunity to provide care for a larger number of children.
In the first half of 2011 FMCC will be looking for 20 volunteers from anywhere in the world to spend a month in Kenya helping to commence construction of the home, set-up the vegetable garden and assist with income-generating projects. These volunteers will stay with the family of Wambui Muiru, the Founder and Director of FMCC.
Over the next twelve months you can expect to see a number of FMCC fundraiser events featuring local musicians and artists. Funds raised will go towards building the new permanent FMCC home.
FMCC are incredibly proud of their achievements and continue to work towards their vision; to see the children grow into healthy and influential adults who will help their community and KENYA as a whole.
